Lofoten Long Trail

Getting there

A bit of discomfort from the very start – welcome to Lofoten!

Steady rain.
A full bus.
Hours of waiting.

And finally being dropped in the middle of nowhere.

Hitchhiking in the rain was the best way to get to the trailhead.
We split into pairs, hoping it would work.

It did.

And that was just the beginning.

The storm and the cabin

Deep in the mountains, the weather turned without warning.

Strong wind.
Heavy rain.
Steep, wet rock slabs.

No place to camp.
No place to stop.
Darkness closing in.

No way back.

And then – a small cabin by the lake.

It saved us.

But something has shifted.

Doubts and turning point

The next day, we almost gave up.

Cold and hungry, standing at an abandonded bus stop, we started to question if we could continue.

For a moment, the whole idea of the trip felt uncertain.

A simple campsite by the sea was all it took..

Warm food. A bit of rest.
Sun breaking through the clouds.

Suddenly it felt possible again.

Ridges and fear

It didn’t stay easy for long.

The ridge near Reine was beautiful – and terrifying.

Narrow path, exposure on both sides, passing backpacks to each other.

Step by step, it stopped feeling like a hike.
It started feeling like a risk.

We had to turn back.

Some paths are not meant to be finished.

But the journey wasn’t over yet.

Above the clouds

This time, it worked.

Hermannsdalstinden.

Above it all.
